I have a little story I want to share which only adds to the headaches that goes along with this deserted development / subdivision. I want to first off say not in a million years expect this to happen so close to my home, but from what I'm coming to realize it's part of living where we live, which is so sad to say ...
The other night my husband was talking about putting a water barrel at one of our down spouts as a water conservation effect to save some water and money when watering our plants and new garden we started. During my evening walk with my son in this deserted development / subdivision, I notice what look like construction waste, possible dump site? But there was a 55 Gal. drum. It wasn't your normal color blue, lord knows I don't want a blue water barrel next to my house. Well this was a black one, it had a nice lid, it appeared to be in great condition. So I left my 18 month old son at the curb, strapped in his stroller and started towards the barrel. I removed the band that was holding the lid on, and took the lid off. I found a bunch of paper towels and a ziplock bag with an empty 2 liter bottle with like hospital tubes connected to it, which seemed odd to me but what was even worse was the smell that came from the black barrel. I thought if this is what I think it is, I better leave it be and get a way. I'm first concern was my son! Again I wasn't sure, I don't do drugs, I was only going on hear say. But I thought better safe than sorry, when Connor and I got back from our walk at about 7 I grabbed my phone and called the police and explained to the woman what I had stumbled on. She passed me to her sgt. And I explained it all again and said I didn't know if it was worth reporting because I wasn't sure. He proceeding to tell me that I need to stay away from hazard materials. Hello! How was I suppose to know it didn't have a huge hazardous sticker on it, I thought he was actually pretty rude, he thanked me and I apologized again, and that was the last of it until my phone rang at 10:15 that night. It was a Narcotics Officer saying, "Good find it was a meth dump site." My first words were, "Are you serious?" and he proceeded to tell me that it was good thing that I called it in when I did that were still some very active ingredients. Said that his guys had to dress in there little white suits to removed the contents of the barrel. I was just in shock, this was to close to my home. I didn't ask the officer any more questions just answered his. He asked my full name, D.O.B., address and phone number for his report as I was the person who discovered it. He again thanked me and said great find. I told him I had no idea that is what it was and thought better safe than sorry. I got off the phone and explained every thing to my husband as he hadn't been home that night. Told him how stupid I felt for calling the police, and how stupid the sgt. made me feel but again better safe than sorry. I couldn't get the thought out of my head, very active ingredients and I opened the barrel with my son only a few feet away, what if …
